As a young person, growing up to become a resourceful and responsible citizen is very challenging in Nigeria. There's no supportive pillar from almost every part of the class of people we're having, including the civic, political and economic leaders, and even among our peers, which discouraged many young people from excelling in the best thing they could do.
There is no good public basic education at the root level, and even the higher one that's helping in addressing some developmental issues and their possible solutions is nearly collapsed in the country. Following that hard path, some are graduating in 6-7 years, finishing national service, and still becoming unemployed for a decade.Photo: GettyImage |
Over the years of my studies in a university and post-NYSC for almost two years now, I believe that some Nigerian youths are exceptionally talented in many ways if they were properly mentored; it's just the environment that's stopping them. There are no standard career plans for those that are even trying, only going with no direct focus.
With the increase of lots of social vices and lots of other hardships, I always find it very hard to think about this issue as we're also experiencing another demographic bulge in the youth population in the country. For example, thousands are celebrating their NYSC POP this week. Anyway, congratulations to them!
Therefore, and despite all these issues, what will a young person need to do to excel better in this hard situation? My generation needs to know more.
